KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Moldova is trying to “shift from a sore head to a healthy one,” saying that Russian peacekeepers are hindering the attraction of investments, Vitaly Ignatiev, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (PMR), told RIA Novosti.

“If a neighboring state is now having difficulties attracting investments or difficulties in some other areas, then blaming Russian peacekeepers for this is an attempt, as they say, to ‘shift from a sore head to a healthy one,’” Ignatiev said.

The head of the PMR Foreign Ministry also drew attention to the fact that Russian military personnel are in Transnistria with the only task - to maintain peace and tranquility on the banks of the Dniester.

“As for Chisinau’s calls to withdraw Russian troops and reformat the peacekeeping operation, then, as we have emphasized more than once, such issues can only be discussed after the final fair settlement of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict and not before. If, behind the usual verbal speculations, there is someone hiding the intention to unilaterally promote these issues is a dangerous path to the emergence of another “hot spot” on the map of Europe,” Ignatiev noted.
